1. What fiscal measures will you implement to ensure that mineral exploration and development remains globally competitive and able to attract investment?

Your Political Party of BC (YPP) would continue the current policy of a refundable income tax credit to encourage investment in the mining industry. We believe that the government should also encourage innovation within the industry, such as with the current Scientific Research and Experimental Development tax incentive program. I would look into expanding this program and offering further incentives of a similar nature.

  1. What fiscal measures will you implement to ensure that mineral exploration and development remains globally competitive and able to attract investment?

John Horgan and the BC New Democrat governments support mining. Under the BC NDP government in the 1990s we opened six new mines, including three of BC’s biggest metal mines still operating today: Huckleberry, Mount Polley and Kemess South.

The BC NDP implemented a host of policies which were supportive to mining, including appointing the province’s first Mining Advocate, providing grants and tax credits for mineral exploration, and creating the first comprehensive Environmental Assessment Process.

Tens of thousands of British Columbians rely on jobs in the mining sector. These are good, family-supporting jobs that are critical to British Columbia’s success. That’s why Today’s BC Liberals are focused on keeping BC an attractive place to invest and a competitive place to do business.
